TM
The BattleMat Gameboard depicts an actual battlefield and allows the player cards, spells & magic items to interact with each other as if in an actual battle.  The design of the gameboard includes two Front Line Zones for opposing teams' players to engage in battle.  It also includes a Back Line that allows teams a means to protect or shield some of their more vulnerable or important players from combat.  Card Zones for the different card types as well as used or discarded cards are conveniently located on the outside of the Battlefield Zones so that they do not interfere with gameplay.  A full size image of the BattleMat can be found at the bottom of this page.  The figure below helps illustrate how the BattleMat Gameboard is used during combat in this game.  For more in-depth examples please go to the Example of a Missile Turn and the Example of a Normal Turn links on this website.
Example 1:  A Dwarf attacks a Zombie.  The Zombie's card is deactivated indicating that he will be slain without some magical help.  Example 2:  A Beast's attack on a Dragon is blocked by a mind spell, so the Beast's card is deactivated.  Example 3:  A Wizard attacks a Giant Snake with the help of a Touch of Death weapon spell, which gives the Wizard a Magic Attack.  The Wizard's attack is blocked however by a Protection from Magic spell.  Example 4:  An Orc is attacked by a deadly Sorcery spell.  Example 5:  A Human Warrior attacks a Warthog in his opponent's Secondary Front Line by placing his card in his own Secondary Front Line.  The Warrior's attack is blocked however by a Weapon Shield spell.  Example 6:  A vulnerable but very important Necromancer, who is the Monsters Team's spellcaster, seeks protection from combat in his Back Line Zone.
